The Bible is the foundation of our faith and practice. Below is a summary of the core truths we believe and teach at St Andrews Baptist Church
God
WE BELIEVE in One God, eternally existing in three persons, Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
The Scriptures
WE BELIEVE in the Old and New Testament Scriptures as plenarily inspired of God, wholly trustworthy, and of supreme authority in faith and life.
Jesus Christ
WE BELIEVE in the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ: His virgin birth, His miracles, His complete and perfect manhood, the authority of His teaching, His all-sufficient work of atonement for sinners by His vicarious sufferings and death on the cross, His bodily resurrection and ascension to the right hand of His Father in heaven, His present priestly intercession for His people, and His personal return to earth in power and glory.
Humanity and Sin
WE BELIEVE that man was created in the image of God, that he sinned and thereby incurred spiritual death, which is separation from God; that all have sinned and come short of the glory of God; and that man is completely unable to redeem himself apart from God’s grace.
WE BELIEVE in the personality and malignity of the devil and the universality of sin.
Salvation
WE BELIEVE that the Lord Jesus Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures as a substitutionary sacrifice, and that all who trust in Him are justified solely through His shed blood.
The Holy Spirit
WE BELIEVE that all who by faith receive the Lord Jesus Christ are made spiritually alive by the Holy Spirit and become children of God with the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit. The fruit of the Spirit in the believer’s life is described in Galatians 5:22–23.
WE BELIEVE that there are spiritual gifts of the Holy Spirit (as described in 1 Corinthians 12:1–12) and Christ’s gifts to the Church (as described in Ephesians 4:11–13). These are for the edification, exhortation, comfort, and extension of the Church, which is the body of Christ.
Baptism and the Lord’s Supper
WE BELIEVE in the ordinances of Baptism by immersion for the believer and the Lord’s Supper as instituted by our Lord Jesus Christ, but not in Baptism as conveying regenerating grace, nor in the Lord’s Supper as being a sacrifice for sin or involving any change in the bread and wine.
Eternity
WE BELIEVE in the resurrection of the body, the judgement of the world by our Lord Jesus Christ, and the eternal damnation of the wicked.
The Church
WE BELIEVE that the Church is the company of all who have been made alive in Christ and have been formed by His Spirit into one body, of which Christ is the head, and that the Church is commanded to proclaim the gospel to everyone.
